What you do

Choose one of fourteen weapon types, study a monster's habits and fight long, tactical battles, then turn the materials into new armour and weapons.

Who it suits

Players who like learning a weapon deeply, and groups of friends who want a regular game night.

01The first hours

The first hours are a long tutorial, but the first big hunt shows what the series is about: reading a huge animal, finding openings and surviving its rage.

02Settling in

Once settled, the loop of hunt, craft and hunt again is very hard to put down. Co-op makes it social and a little easier.

03The long road

The story is short compared with the post-game. Each hunt is a self-contained session, so stopping after one or two is easy to plan.

Why it works

  • Spectacular monster fights
  • Great four-player co-op
  • Hunts are natural session lengths

Watch out for

  • Story is thin
  • Paid cosmetics can tempt

Our verdict

The best co-op hunting game there is. Agree on two hunts, then stop.
